team development

Why team development?

Effective teams are key to the success of our university so it’s no surprise that teamwork is one of our 6 values.  Investing time for the whole team to learn and develop together can lead to a wide range of benefits such as a shared vision, purpose and goals.  It can also create an environment which fosters trust and a sense of belonging – more important than ever because of the way teams now work at LBU.

What does the POD team offer?

We work in partnership with teams across LBU to support positive outcomes where the focus is connected to LBU strategic priorities. Together we will help you curate the right development path for your team; often creating blended approaches that combine our online resources, face-to-face development sessions and facilitated conversations. We will guide you in making full use of the wide range of POD resources available; including matching you with a skilled facilitator if required. We'll also be clear about any costs involved.

Psychometric profiling may be used to support team development. Such psychometric profiling will only be undertaken by accredited facilitators and will operate within the ethical guidelines of the test provider.

Advice will also be given on how to integrate the formal development into your on-going practice to ensure that the learning is embedded in how you work and delivers the results you want to see.

Some questions to consider:

  • What outcomes would you like to achieve?
  • How would this development fit in with your school or service strategy or aims?
  • What development has the team had in this area recently?
  • How will you know this development has been successful?
  • How can we make this development as inclusive as possible?

What happens next:

Get in touch with us via POD@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to start the conversation. We'll start by asking you the above questions to make sure we find the best solution for your team's needs.

Our Partners' agreement tells you more about what to typically expect from a session:

  • Design and deliver the session to meet the expected outcomes
  • Arrange any resources, pre- or post-work required
  • Provide external supplier facilitator details and liaise with them on the area's behalf as required
  • Evaluate the session and follow up on/advise on further development as needed

  • Confirm session date, time, location and delegate details with the POD team
  • Communicate the session arrangements to delegates and order any refreshments
  • Send the POD Team a delegate list and highlight any accessibility requirements
  • Attend a follow up meeting with the POD team to evaluate how the learning is being embedded and any next steps

Can the POD team support us with IT training?

Support with the use of the Microsoft Office 365 suite is also available, via our external IT facilitators, Happy. We can arrange group sessions for up to 8 colleagues at a time, focussed on learning more about the functionality of any of the Office programmes, such as Word, Excel and Outlook, or to help with a particular task or challenge.  The sessions, which can be tailored and based on specific examples, can take place virtually or face to face. They would typically be locally funded. Happy can also arrange one to one sessions, lasting from 30-60 minutes.
