The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is offering three PhD fee-waiver studentship in Social Sciences for an October 2026 start.
The school will pay the PhD fees each year for three years - successful applicants will need to support their living costs, e.g. with a postgraduate doctoral loan.
Applicants' proposals should fit with one of our areas of expertise.

All applicants should hold either:
- An undergraduate honours degree at 2:1 or above in a related subject
- A postgraduate qualification (below PhD level) in a relevant discipline
Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of research methods appropriate to their area of study and submit a clear, practical research proposal as part of their application.
PhD places will be awarded to the strongest applications assessed on the applicant's academic excellence, the strength of the research proposal and how the proposal fits with the research project/staff expertise.
