Speech and Language Therapy Clinic

What we do

At the SLT Clinic, we aim to provide complementary support to clients' existing or ongoing NHS speech and language therapy interventions.

Who is the service for?

Adults who have an acquired difficulty with their communication, which may have occurred following a stroke or a neurological condition such as Parkinson's disease.

What do we offer?

The SLT Clinic runs throughout the year in line with our student clinical placement timetable. Therapy sessions are based on episodes of care, which could last between 4-8 weeks.

What will happen after we receive your referral?

We will contact you by telephone or email to arrange an initial appointment to discuss your needs and talk through our offer. You may be required to complete some assessments to help us support your future goals.

You will be added to our waiting list. We will then contact you when we have sessions available that meet your needs, e.g. in-person and/or online sessions.

You can remain on our caseload for 12 months before discharge. Within 12 months, you will have access to at least one of our therapy programmes.

You can opt out of the SLT Clinic at any time by contacting our service.

At discharge, you may wish to continue working with the students in another way, for example Conversation Partners programme.

The SLT Clinic and our students

The SLT Clinic offers Speech and Language Therapy students an invaluable placement to develop their clinical skills for the workplace while providing high-quality care to the local community. By bridging education and service, the facility also creates vital opportunities for research into innovative therapies for people with diverse communication difficulties.

A Student Placement Success Story - in partnership with Aphasia Support

Aphasia Support has had the pleasure of collaborating with our trainee Speech and Language therapists.

This placement saw students harness their knowledge, skills and experience to create a bank of Aphasia-friendly resources and activities 'to promote communication, social interaction and cognitive stimulation'.

Together, they have created a wealth of resources for Aphasia Support - these will be used by our staff and volunteer team to deliver the charity's pathway of support across Yorkshire and beyond.
