Ritchard Emm

Ritchard joined Leeds Beckett University as a research assistant to Professor Valerie Alia in 2006 (conducting research for her book The New Media Nation), whilst also carrying out his own work on Basque cinema.

Ritchard's background is across a number of disciplines including social work, filmmaking/editing, music journalism and critical/cultural theory. He has taught across faculties in the university initially for a number of years in Media and Communication Cultures and more recently teaching media related modules on the PR and Journalism degrees. He has also taught at York St John University in the department of film and media, and at University of Sunderland teaching visual research methods.

Current Teaching

Currently Ritchard is supervising research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Research Interests

Coming from a diverse academic and professional background, Ritchard is enthused about an interdisciplinary approach both to research and teaching. His own interests include historical, cultural, sociopolitical, philosophical, and other critical trends in media and journalism, social research methods and arts/film practice.
