Principal Learning Officer

Sam is a Principal Learning Officer for Psychology within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Sams role combines contribution to research infrastructure and output with supporting student-centred teaching and learning. Sam also provides technical experience using experimental equipment and quantitative experimental research software to support both staff and student research and learning. Sam supports teaching across laboratory-based sessions and offers support to students completing their dissertation modules. Sam's research interest focuses on experimental psychology with specific interest in cognitive and biological process impacting health and behaviour. Sam has a background in Health and Safety management and uses this to effectively manage risk and ensure compliance within the laboratories in Psychology.

Research interests

Sam's main research aims cover broadly experimental psychology, with particular interest in cognitive, neural and biological approaches. Sam's previous research has investigated mechanisms for the initiation, maintenance and relapse of addiction and how supplement interventions impact biological and cognitive performance.

Professional activities

Sam's professional activities include, laboratory management, risk assessment, equipment maintenance, procurement, and the implementation and support of specialist technological equipment. 

Current teaching

Sam provides technical support for lab teaching across year groups; Sam also provides support for students completing their dissertation modules.

Impact

Sam supports the development of practical and research-focused learning environments within Psychology, contributing to the effective delivery of laboratory teaching and the enhancement of student research experience and opportunity.
