Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

But after a couple of weeks, you might find yourself in need of a haircut, and not know where the best places in your new city are. No need to worry, as Leeds has many great barbers and great salons. Here are some of our favourites.

Hairdressers in Leeds

Hive Hair Salon

This hair salon offers cuts for both women and men and are sure to have you leave their professional studio looking great. Tuesday-Friday they offer a 15% student discount, and they offer a great variety of services, from restyles, to blow dry, and all sorts of different colouring options. Hive are located by the Corn Exchange, so head down for a great hairdressing experience.

Architect Hair Salon

Based on Otley Road, this is the place to be for any of you based up in Headingley, who find yourselves in need of some hair-related TLC. This salon is all about providing a great experience, with longer-than-average appointment lengths dedicated to helping you get the right look. As you’d expect, they offer all the services from cut and finish, to blow dry to colouring. They also offer men’s cuts too.

Renegade Hair Studio

Renegade Hair Studio is another unisex city centre hairdresser, whose training comes from the likes of prestigious Toni & Guy. They offer a customer-centric approach, where they like to get to know you and figure out how to give you exactly what you need. Monday-Wednesday they offer 25% student discount, plus they also offer a first timer discount. What’s not to love?

Barbers in Leeds

JP Barbers

JP Barbers are conveniently located in St. John’s shopping centre, great for all of you located in the city centre! If you need to pop into the shops after getting your fresh trim, the location of JP Barbers is perfect for you. They offer excellent service, with great music, at competitive prices. They’re open on Sundays too.

Joe’s Barbers

Joe’s Barbers, based opposite our Marsden House accommodation, offer some of the best haircuts in Leeds. Not only that but they also offer free WiFi, student discount, games consoles in the waiting area, and a range of refreshments to quench your thirst whilst they work their magic. Make sure to book in advance though, as they operate an appointment-only system.

Cut Above

Cut Above is based in Burley, and easy to get to from Hyde Park or Headingley. A traditional barber, this is a great place to come if you like a friendly chat and a homely feel whilst getting your hair cut. They accept walk-ins and the haircuts are also top notch every time!

Blue Collar Barbers

Blue Collar is based in the city centre on a street called Kirkgate - the oldest street in Leeds. The Blue Collar barbers are well known for doing some of the most on-trend haircuts and are extremely popular - so be sure to book in advance!
