Thriving. Vibrant. Diverse. Friendly. Compact, but with a big city feel.

The above are all words you'll hear associated with Leeds, and in the past few years, they've never been more true. Leeds has become a hub of independent businesses, run by young creatives inspired by the love of their city.

About Leeds

Leeds is on the rise. Since the world’s spotlight fell on it while hosting the Tour de France in 2014, and now with its bid to be Capital of Culture 2023, the city is flourishing and rightfully attaining the international platform it deserves.

If you care about getting a good education, having fun and also living affordably, then Leeds is the place for you. We have one of the largest student populations in Europe, with over 65,000 students injecting new life into an already colourful city and spreading diversity and enthusiasm among locals. Add to that the 780,000 people who choose to call Leeds home - a mix of creative minds, entrepreneurial spirits and hardworking characters - and you’ve got a powerfully individual city, bursting with charisma.

Why choose Leeds as your student city?

In 2016, Leeds was named best city in Britain when it comes to quality of life, beating London, Manchester and Edinburgh in a new global ranking. And it’s easy to see why - financially, it’s true that you’ll get more for your money as a student living in Leeds, and the student community is one of the friendliest in the UK, meaning it’ll quickly become your home from home. Students take up residence all over the city, depending on where they are studying. Popular student areas include Hyde Park, Headingley and Woodhouse, which are all within walking distance of our university campuses.

Leeds is always described as cosmopolitan, an effortlessly stylish city that excels in many areas – from world-class museums, theatres and galleries, to a city centre packed with shops, from high end designer, to high street favourites and independent stars. But it’s also surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty – you can be in the glorious Yorkshire countryside within a 10-minute bus journey from the city centre. That combination of urban metropolis and thriving economy, paired with inspiring neighbouring scenery, has proved a pull for students from all corners of the world.

We know that nightlife is important to our students, and there’s genuinely something to offer everyone on that front – from quirky independent café bars, to tiny underground bars, super nightclubs and proper pubs.
