Generative ai and academic practice
Information about generative AI in learning, teaching, and assessment at Leeds Beckett University.
A dedicated Artificial Intelligence guide for students is available on the Library website.
What is generative ai?Â
- In this context, AI refers to artificial intelligence
- Generative AI (often called Gen AI) is a type of artificial intelligence that can create content such as text, images, videos, and music
- Gen AI tools are trained using data sources such as large language models for text. Content created by Gen AI could come from any publicly available source on the internet or social media. This means there is a risk that copyrighted materials may be exploited
- Many Gen AI tools also learn from the information entered by users, so it is important to be aware that the Gen AI provider may use your data to train their models. This risk is greater with free tools
- You should never enter copyrighted materials or sensitive/personal data into a Gen AI tool
