Request it service

Through the Request it! service service, students and staff are able to recommend books for the Library to buy. Many of these diversify the resources the Library owns through their themes, content or authorship. The service can also be used by students and staff to  request resources for personal research projects.

By filling out a single request form and letting us know your resource preferences, the Learning Resources Team can ensure that a resource is purchased for the library collection either electronically or as a physical copy, or borrowed from another Library if suitable for personal research projects.

For more details and how to submit your request, visit the Request it! service page.

The Request it Service is for collection development and personal research purposes only. The Library will order a single print copy, single-user ebook license or request to borrow an item from another library.

If you are requesting items for teaching purposes, it is recommended to add resources to your module reading list. This means the Library team will purchase sufficient copies for cohort use, including multiple print copies and multi-user e-books to ensure appropriate access.

Further information can be found on our guides on how to add an online reading list.

The Request it Service runs all year round and for all cohort levels, as-well as staff. On a monthly basis, the Learning Resources Team will post newly requested items on the Request it! Service page.

Here you can browse new additions to the library collections, with information on how to access or reserve print books. We hope by sharing new additions to the collection we can ensure the library collection is kept relevant for your studies.

When designing your module reading lists, you may want to review new resources to see if they are applicable for your teaching. The library's academic supplier, Browns Books, has launched a new E-book Inspection Copy service.

This service allows you a maximum of 10 active e-book copies per institution for personal review, with an access period of 30 days. Prospective users will need to fill out the request form on the Browns site, including the ISBN of the required titles. Please note, the account number is not required. You can search the Browns website for titles and  their ISBN numbers. When your request has been processed, you will receive an email with availability of the titles, and instructions on how to access. If the 10 copies limit has been reached for the institution, your request will be added to a waiting list and you will be notified when you can re-request your items.

If there are titles you would like permanently added to the library collection after inspection, please add the item to your reading list and the Learning Resources Team will order this for you, ensuring access for the cohort.
