Here are 10 reasons why you should study your law degree at Leeds Law School...

1. STUDY YOUR DEGREE AT A HIGHLY RATED AND ESTABLISHED LAW SCHOOL

Teaching Law since 1924, Leeds Law School has propelled decades of successful alumni into the fast-paced, competitive legal world and beyond. Studying your degree with us means you'll benefit from a wealth of knowledge and experience. You can explore our blog to find out what students enjoy most about living and studying here.

Our Law courses rank in the top 18 universities overall in the independent National Student Survey 2024. Within Leeds Law School, 90% of our students on the LLB (Hons) Law and 92% on the LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology were positive about the teaching on their course.

Reflecting the positive experiences of our students, we've also secured top positions in the 2024 StudentCrowd University Awards. 2. YOU'LL BE PART OF ONE OF THE UK'S LARGEST LEGAL HUBS

Leeds is a vibrant, student-friendly city, as well as one of the UK's largest legal hubs. With a wide variety of career opportunities on your doorstep - from becoming a lawyer to excelling in government, business or finance - it's a great place to study law.

You'll be based in Broadcasting Place at our City Campus in Leeds, home to a thriving student community and easily accessible by car, train and plane.

3. GET INSPIRED IN MODERN AND COLLABORATIVE SPACES

You'll benefit from access to sophisticated facilities, studying in a modern, collaborative, and forward thinking atmosphere. Featuring a courtroom, immersive learning spaces and an impressive Harvard Lecture Theatre, you'll be spoiled for choice.

Dedicated law spaces on campus allow you to fully engage with staff and fellow students, creating a sense of community within Leeds Law School.

Being based at our city centre location means you'll also be in easy reach of wider university facilities, such as the library, social learning spaces and the Students' Union.

4. SAVE MONEY ON TEXTBOOKS

As a student at Leeds Law School, you'll spend less (if anything) on textbooks. Our online subscription to Law Trove gives you free access to the complete Law catalogue from Oxford University Press - including over 200 legal textbooks.

5. BOOST YOUR LEGAL PRACTICE SKILLS

It's not all about books and lectures. You can opt to do work placements to gain hands-on experience and expand your knowledge of the legal profession.

You'll put learning into practice in our Courtroom, Law Clinic and immersive learning spaces, and have the opportunity to take part in mooting competitions. You can even choose to study abroad as part of an exchange programme.

Modules like 'Legal and Employability Skills' help you prepare for your career, covering everything from soft skills to what to expect from recruitment processes in the legal sector. With a variety of assessment styles throughout your degree, you'll be supported to develop and be successful.

Take a look at the practical opportunities and modules included on your course page: LLB (Hons) Law, LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology and the MLaw Law and Professional Legal Practice, an integrated master's degree designed to help you prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE).

6. APPLY YOUR SKILLS IN THE COMMUNITY

We take pride in our partnerships and commitment to local communities. One example is Support Through Court, a national charity helping litigants in person navigate the court system. Based at Leeds Law School, you can build your experience by completing court forms and attending court hearings as you support local people through their case. Support Through Court partner with one university per city they operate in (outside of London), meaning only Leeds Beckett students can benefit from this opportunity in Leeds.

You can also benefit from our Law Clinic, a place for members of the public to receive free (pro bono) legal advice. With supervision from practising legal professionals, you'll give back to your community using the skillset you've built to offer advice in areas ranging from family to employment law.

Support Through Court is just one of many examples of the amazing opportunities that Leeds Law School provide their students with. I can't recommend it more highly.

There's also ample opportunity to impress employers and establish connections while you study your law degree. Students with excellent academic achievements are often rewarded with sponsored prizes from law firms.

With a variety of postgraduate law courses to choose from, many of our graduates continue their journey at Leeds Law School. Whether you want to complete your LLM or specialise in an area of the law, there are plenty of progression routes for you.
