Explore trends in fashion

Exploring how trends occur, evolve, and influence fashion, you’ll gain a deeper understanding for market demand and will be able to create responsive designs through industry-led briefs and live projects.

Final year student, Lottie, told us that there is so much to explore on the course and that “A lot of the module briefs include design and research” which helps with future employability.

Learn new skills

There are so many career opportunities in fashion and this course teaches you the skills to make you employable in the industry. You’ll learn:

  • How to use technology to create 2D and 3D concepts
  • All about different fabrics and the desired outcome they can achieve
  • How to draft patterns and produce garments to industry standard

We know starting university can be daunting, especially when it means learning something new, but we try to make that as easy as possible for you. Second-year student, Cristina, spoke to us about how we’ve done that for her with the support of the teaching team. She said: “At the start of the course I didn’t know how to sew but everyone was so helpful to me, and I learnt quickly”.

Make your very own garments

Not only will you get to learn new skills, you’ll get to apply them too. As part of the course, you’ll be tasked with designing and making your very own garments. It’s one of the things our students enjoy the most and when we asked what their proudest achievement was, it was clear that making garments was one of them.

Lottie explained that creating one of “the most challenging garmentsand “handing it in on time and presenting it to everyone” was her proudest moment. Second year student, Camelia said: “I would say my proudest achievement is last year’s project where we did a trousers project. I pushed myself to the limit, everything I learned I just put into that project.”

Paving the way for your future

With research, new skills, and garment making combined, you’ll graduate from the BA (Hons) Fashion course prepared to start your career in the industry.

Leeds Beckett University is blessed to have one of the largest arts communities in the north, not to mention options for work experience and graduate jobs, so you’ll never be short on opportunity. Our current students are all excited for their future careers, and some of them share their aspirations with us.

Cristina shared her aspirations, which is “to be a fashion designer and have my own brand”. Thanks to the learning environment and the support she has received on this course, she has said that she knows she “can achieve my dream”.

Camelia also said: “I really want to have my own brand in the future, and I think this is a great opportunity for me to learn all the difference aspects of having your own brand, like sewing, trends, and designing.”

So, what advice do our students have for you?
