Introduce yourself – tell us who you are and what you do?

Hello, I am Benz Alexander, a graduate who completed MA Landscape Architecture with distinction at Leeds Beckett University in the summer of 2023.

I chose Landscape Architecture as an extension of my previous architectural degree in India. While I have experienced the design process in creating interesting building forms, my pursuit of happiness led me to explore the interface between landscape and architectural forms. Incorporating landscapes into our daily lives can reduce stress and benefit mental health. This is one goal I want to achieve for all.

What did you enjoy about your course?

Enrolling in the MA Landscape Architecture programme has been one of my happiest experiences in this vibrant city. Obviously, transitioning from a different background to Leeds posed initial challenges, but Leeds Beckett is filled with happy faces and abundant support, making it much easier to settle during my course. We engaged in creative sessions and group activities that infused excitement into our academic pursuits. Additionally, site trips were an integral part of our studies, allowing me to experience immense joy while exploring the picturesque parts of the UK and learning about its history from our knowledgeable tutors.

My favourite part of the course was when we undertook a task to select a landscape site and observe it through various seasons, delving into its wildlife and witnessing public social interactions blooming at their own pace. This immersive experience added depth to my understanding of landscapes.

The professors played a pivotal role throughout the entire course. They provided assistance with presentations, crafting CVs, and navigating job opportunities. Their mentorship was invaluable in shaping not only our academic proficiency but also our professional growth. Guest speakers from various places shared their personal experiences, serving as a profound confidence booster.

The guest speakers provided practical insights into the profession, enhancing our understanding of the real-world aspects of landscape architecture.

What have you been up to since graduating?
