Hack 1: Line your oven and oven trays with foil.

If any food spills you them simply have to peel it off and replace, no washing required. In fact, put foil on everything you eat from and you'll never have to wash up!

Hack 2: Microwave TLC

Don’t worry about having to pay an arm and a leg for a microwave multi cleaner, to clean out the grime all you need is a lemon, a few drops of vinegar and some water.

Hack 3: Clean your surfaces

Why not try making your own surface cleaner. A teaspoon each of salt, baking soda, and boiling water is all you need for a paste that should leave your cooking surfaces spick-and-span.

Hack 4: Get rid of rubbish

Use the recycling bins on site and make sure no excess rubbish is left in the flat.

Hack 5: Hoover… simples

Not exactly a hack but a quick once over with the hoover will instantly make any room look cleaner- even if the rest looks like a bomb’s hit it!

Hack 6: Open a window

If the meal you cooked 2 days ago is still hovering, open a window and boil something fragrant like citrus peels or cinnamon sticks. Or if it’s loan day invest in some Febreze.

Hack 7: Coca Cola - to clean the toilet

That's right. The fizzy drink can actually remove hard-to-clean stains on the inside of a toilet bowl. You can either pour cola directly onto the stains themselves or cover the entire inside of the bowl by putting cola into a spray bottle and spraying on a light coating.

Just be careful when you open the bottle…

Hack 8: Shower in vinegar

… not literally… put plastic bags filled with vinegar around your shower heads to rid them of stains.

When do flat inspections take place?

Weekly inspections will take place every Wednesday at Sugarwell Court, Woodhouse Flats and Carnegie Village and are split between Wednesdays and Thursdays at Kirkstall Brewery. Flats who fail their inspection on will have a reinspection within 24 hours. Please check your kitchen notice board on Wednesday about the outcome of your inspection.

UPP will also be carrying out your termly flat inspections this week. The inspection is to check that all flats are being kept in accordance with the tenant handbook for cleanliness and damage. If the flat is not in an acceptable state, you will be given a period of time in which to put matters right before a re-inspection (normally within 24 hours).
