Welcome to the Leeds Beckett community

We are delighted that you will be joining us at Leeds Beckett University. From before you leave your home country to your first few weeks in Leeds, you will have access to our full range of support so you can start focusing on your studies.

Once you join us you will be part of our Global Village. Our Global Village is made up of students and staff who are here to help you settle into life in Leeds and make new friends.

This guide provides information to help you prepare to travel to the UK. It also explains what to do when you arrive at Leeds Beckett.

This year we have an exciting schedule of International Welcome Events being held in-person and online. The in-person events will include campus tours, city tours and a welcome party, while the online events will allow you to meet a Global Buddy and get to know other international students! We are confident that you will have an enjoyable and rewarding time with us and create memories that you will treasure for life. CHECKLIST - What to do before you arrive

  1. 1. Create an account on our Online Welcome system

    Log on to welcome.leedsbeckett.ac.uk. You will be asked to upload a passport photo for your Leeds Beckett campus card.

  2. 2. Accept your unconditional offer (if your offer was unconditional)

    To confirm your place with us.

  3. 3. Book your accommodation

    You can book your accommodation through our website or Unipol.

  4. 4. Pay at least 50% of your fees

    You'll need to pay at least 50% of your fees or provide proof of sponsorship.

  5. 5. Apply for your CAS number

    We will ask you to complete a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) form, so you can receive your CAS number to apply for your visa.

  6. 6. Apply for your Student Visa

    You will need to provide various documents and information when applying for a visa.

  7. 7. Receive your Student Visa

    This will be for 90 days so you can enter the UK. Once you arrive you will collect your full student visa, which is also called a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

  1. 1. Meet us at the airport, train or coach station

  2. 2. Pick up your keys for your new home

    If you booked Leeds Beckett accommodation you will have been given details of where you can collect your keys.

    If you are renting private accommodation, you will need to arrange key collection through your private letting agent.

  3. 3. Attend your International Check-in appointment

    When you arrive, if you have opted to collect your BRP from the university, please note you should only collect it once you have received an email to say it has been received. The collection address and opening times will be provided in a specific email.

  4. 4. Attend an International Welcome event

    A host of events will be available to help you settle into the UK and your course.

  5. 5. Attend your international student induction

    We will give you advice about health care, setting up a bank account, keeping safe and working in the UK.

  6. 6. Attend your course induction

    Meet your new classmates and access your timetable from your Online Welcome account.

  7. 7. Complete the Academic Introduction Module

    Our International Students’ Academic Introduction module starts on 5 September for three weeks, providing you with practical information and support to develop your skills as you begin studying at Leeds Beckett. You should be automatically enrolled on the module in our virtual learning environment, MyBeckett.

  8. 8. Start your course

    You are now ready to start your course and focus on your studies.
