Leeds Beckett University partnered with the University of Leeds, the NHS, Leeds Arts University, the Leeds Conservatoire, Leeds Trinity University, the University of Law, Leeds College, Leeds College of Building, and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance to open a ‘pop-up’ vaccination centre in Old Broadcasting House, located on Leeds Beckett’s city campus.

The centre ran from 11 January 2022 until 28 January 2022 and was open to students and staff of all seven higher education institutions in Leeds, offering first doses or booster jabs of the Moderna vaccine.
The partnership prioritised the health of Leeds’s higher education communities and contributed to the city’s reputation as a key education provider, allowing universities to continue their activity at the highest level during a challenging time.
A total of 1,328 people were vaccinated at the centre, both through walk-ins and pre-booked appointments. The initiative therefore had a huge community impact, allowing those who could not get their jab through the NHS for different reasons to access it easily through the vaccination centre at Old Broadcasting House.
The vaccination centre was a way for the higher education institutions in Leeds to come together and support the community during a time of need. Leeds Beckett University, the University of Leeds and other higher education institutions in the city will continue to work together to the benefit of the Leeds city region through future initiatives responding to the region’s needs as they arise.
