As the new academic year kicks off at Leeds Beckett University, first-year Leeds Business School students had a unique opportunity to hear from one of the University’s own alumni, Jaz Singh. A Business School graduate who has since embarked on an exciting journey both in the business world and as a contestant on the hit TV show The Traitors. His visit to campus wasn’t just a walk down memory lane; it was an inspiring talk filled with encouragement for students just starting their university experience.

Jaz Singh graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a business degree. "I loved being a student at Leeds Beckett," Jaz recalled. "It’s all about how you approach it. There are so many people and opportunities, and for me, I had a fantastic experience. The academics played a massive part in it, they really made the course enjoyable, which impacted my time as a student."

Jaz also told us why he chose Leeds Beckett. "The city has a bit of everything. The people are friendly, and the business course really appealed to me because of the opportunities it offered."

After graduating, Jaz pursued his passion for technology, working for major companies like Samsung, Sony, and TomTom. He credited his business course for giving him the skills that propelled his career. "I learned so much in various subject areas like marketing, data analytics, business strategy and finance, that I applied directly in those roles."

What makes Jaz's story unique is how he led a completely unexpected path, starring in The Traitors, a popular psychological reality TV show. His charisma, intellect, and strategic mindset made him a standout contestant, earning him a place in the final.

Since then, Jaz has successfully built a multifaceted career, combining his business insight with media opportunities, while also becoming a public speaker who motivates young minds.

Reflecting on his success and newfound platform after The Traitors, Jaz emphasized the importance of giving back. "It’s surreal to come back and speak to the students. My advice to them is to have an open mind, embrace the challenges, and enjoy the experience - it sets the foundation for your future life."

Jaz’s return to Leeds Beckett wasn’t just to inspire but to express gratitude. "I’ve come back not only to inspire these students but to thank the university and my tutors. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now."

The talk left students motivated to embrace their own university journeys, with Jaz's story serving as a powerful reminder of the doors that can open through hard work, resilience, and a positive attitude.

Alistair Macauley, Course Director said, “It was fantastic to have Jaz at our first-year inductions. His remarkable journey demonstrated the profound impact that studying at our university has had on his life, both personally and professionally. The students were truly enthused and motivated by his story, eager to embark on their own journeys.”
