Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose to study BA (Hons) International Business.

I’ve always considered myself a creative and adventurous person, so when it came to choosing a degree, I wanted something that reflected that. Not a lot of people know this, but I actually started my university journey studying fashion design at a different university in Leeds. I loved the creative side of it, but I quickly realised it wasn’t the right fit—I felt confined to one specific field, and that felt limiting. After taking a step back to reassess, I found International Business, and it just clicked. Business is multidimensional; it allows me to be creative while keeping my career options open. Plus, I’ve always had a passion for experiencing different cultures, so the international aspect of the course really appealed to me. It’s been the perfect fit, combining everything I love into one degree.

What have been the highlights of your course experience?

One of the biggest highlights has been the opportunity to see international business in practice. I’ve had the chance to travel, meet new people, and experience different cultures firsthand—all while studying. One of my first experiences was a summer school in India, organised through Leeds Beckett. I spent two weeks in Pune, attending business site visits and learning about international business in a real-world setting. Seeing sustainable business practices in action was a standout moment for me—especially visiting a sustainable farm and meeting the women balancing work with their personal lives. It gave me a completely new perspective on how business and culture intersect.

That experience inspired me to seek out even more international opportunities, leading me to a six-month global immersion programme in South Korea. Studying at Kyungdong University and engaging with international students was eye-opening. Every class discussion was enriched by different perspectives, and I gained a deeper understanding of how business operates in a non-Western environment. More than anything, these experiences have given me the confidence to pursue a truly global career. The idea of working internationally doesn’t feel daunting anymore—it feels exciting.

How would you say the course helps you to utilise your previous experiences and skills?

Studying International Business has given me a new way to apply my creativity and adaptability. At first, I was worried that leaving fashion design meant losing that creative outlet, but I’ve come to realise that business is just as innovative. Whether it’s problem-solving, strategising, or thinking about global markets, creativity plays a huge role. My international experiences have also helped me develop a sharper commercial mindset. Before starting this course, I didn’t think much about global trade beyond the basics. Now, when I read about tariffs, trade agreements, or supply chain disruptions, I can see the bigger picture and understand the economic motivations behind them.

What’s next for you after graduation?

If you’d asked me a year ago, I would have said my goal was to land a role in a multinational corporation abroad—somewhere fast-paced where I could gain industry experience. But after everything I’ve learned and experienced, I’m starting to think bigger. With so much international exposure already under my belt, I feel more independent and open to new opportunities. Now, I’m considering starting my own business overseas. I’m not entirely sure what that will look like just yet, but I know I want something that combines my love for creativity, culture, and business. I’m keeping an open mind, exploring different industries, and seeing where this journey takes me. Whatever comes next, I know I want to keep pushing boundaries and making the most of every international opportunity that comes my way.
