Letters to the Library

Thank you for all your great responses to our call for Love and Break Up letters to the Library during Valentine's.

What you told us

You love the space and feel of the Library, describing it as a "home from home, "spacious and cosy" and saying it had a "friendly atmosphere" but say that it is often too hot or too cold. We  continue to monitor this and work has been carried out to try to improve the ambient temperature in both libraries.

You like the variety of study spaces (group, silent and meeting rooms) saying they work well for the different types of tasks and projects you are given. However you feel the Student Meeting Rooms can be confusing to book and they get booked up quickly! We know that they are very popular at busy times so we encourage booking them in advance. We also have a video to explain the booking process.

We are really pleased to hear that that you find Library staff to be "helpful" and "friendly" saying that we are "friendly and approachable" and always willing to help with any issues you may have. You also like the variety of resources we have on offer, not just the books, but the PCs, laptops and printers. You say that sometimes it can be hard to find books in the Library and that increasing the range of titles and types of resources would be helpful.

You love the support you receive from Skills for Learning, describing it as "invaluable" and that it "helped me be a much better student". You would like more sessions at more varied times and we have passed this feedback on to the team. You also value your Academic Librarians, encouraging others to take up the support they provide as "they have so much to offer." Our 24/7 opening continues to be popular. "... fact it's open 24/7 has made it my second home" but as we’re open overnight you’d like more water fountains and vending machines offering a greater variety of food in or closer to the library. "Improve the vending machines - more than crisps and chocolate" We don't have responsibility for these machines, but we will pass your comments on to the team that does.

A number of you say that the library can be very busy and at times space is at a premium. This is something we continue to work to improve, ensuring more work space and PCs are provided with refurbishments and working with the university to promote additional study space outside the library, in your schools and other communal areas.

Finally there were some comments about rubbish. Our cleaners do a great job, and are regularly in and around in the Library. But, remember it is your library and your space, please keep it tidy so it continues to reflect all the positive comments we have received.
