Leeds Beckett academic discusses national commemoration for Covid-19 victims

UK Centre for Events Management Senior Lecturer, Rev. Ruth Dowson, was invited by Faith Action to present a webinar on the event management implications of a proposed national commemoration event to remember those who have died as a result of Covid, and to provide an opportunity for those who are bereaved and grieving to mark their loss and to begin to engage with the bereavement process.

Faith Action has been commissioned to research the idea of having a national commemoration event to support those who are bereaved and to mark the loss of friends and family. Ruth suggested such an event could take place over an extended period of time, developing new meaningful rituals so that a diverse range of people, of all faiths and none, can mark their loss. Further discussions will be taking place.

Ruth is co-author of several books, including the second edition of 'Event Planning and Management' and 'Spiritual and Religious Tourism'. Her published research explores the concept of the Eventization of faith.
