Kyriaki’s research focuses on the appropriation and measurement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of tourism and hospitality industry, and on the ways SDG-driven change transitions influence business resilience.

In her keynote, Kyriaki addressed the latest updates on the operationalisation of SDG targets and measurement indicators with an emphasis on the challenges entailed for tourism and hospitality small and medium enterprises (SME’s) within the current socio-economic environment. With SME’s compromising the great majority of traditional providers of hospitality and tourism services in the UK (97%, BEIS October 2020) and EU (90%, EUROSTAT, 2020) the contribution of the sector to the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda passes through the exploration of change enablers and inhibitors, the monitoring and reporting jigsaw puzzle and the appropriation and downscaling of targets to the specifics of the industry.
