The Bootcamp gave students the opportunity to experience the work performed at LabCorp’s Harrogate and York sites, and gain a signed certificate for completion of the: ‘Working in a Regulated Laboratory’ module, prepared and delivered by LabCorp’s: Henry Beevers; Laboratory Systems Coordinator, Adrian Greenwood; Global Training Manager and Jonathan Pickford QC Analyst.

Students spent time in seminars and lab spaces and were introduced to Raw Data Recording and Good Documentation Practices, before successfully completing an assessment on raw data topics. LabCorp discussed GxP principles with a focus on Good Manufacturing Practices to develop a practical understanding of what GMP means in a working lab. Throughout the 4 days students worked to data recording principles, with LabCorp staff performing quality checks and approvals throughout.

On the second day students focused on Pipette and Balances Training, including how to use a balance and an automatic pipette. The training contained a practical demonstration and  all participants successfully completed a theory assessment on the use of pipettes and balances, and a practical gravimetric assessment.

On the third day students completed mock clinical ELISA assays and produced a reference curve against which to compare prepared ‘unknown’ mock clinical samples.

Throughout the LabCorp Bootcamp students gained an understanding of the drug development process, an introduction to LabCorp Drug Development and the roles performed at their Harrogate and York sites. This was well received, and several students expressed interest in applying for graduate level roles with LabCorp as a direct result of the experience.
