Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

I’m a psychology enthusiast who has been teaching the subject for 20 years.

Tell us a bit about you and what led you to working with School of Humanities and Social Sciences

I always said I would do a PhD if I won the lottery but I got the chance when a bursary place was offered to me by Leeds Beckett. It seemed a natural progression, after I had submitted my doctorate, to work where I loved to be! I’m still waiting to win the lottery though…

What makes you passionate about your work around Psychology and why is it important?

I came to psychology late, in my 30s, and have been fascinated ever since. It gave me a fresh perspective on being a mother and a teacher. Who isn’t interested in why people do what they do? Teaching students about the subject is a great role and continues to indulge my fascination with the subject.

How is collaboration integral to your work, and what are one or two collaborations that have been most meaningful to you?

My work at HMP Full Sutton where I teach psychology to prison students, officers and some of our undergraduates is a very rewarding experience. Collaborating with my colleagues on teaching innovation is also really satisfying and good fun.

What achievements in this area have you been most proud of while working in the School of Social Sciences?

Every year I get to run an Educational Psychology module with final year students and it is really rewarding to teach. Setting up the module and planning the content based on what will help them once they graduate is something I am particularly proud of.
