Things that surprised me in the UK
Hi, my name is Ayesha and I'm going to share with you the things that surprised me when I moved to the UK
No matter how well you plan, there will inevitably be a surprise or something you didn't consider when relocating abroad. The United Kingdom has so much to offer, including stunning scenery, a diverse population, and a wealth of educational and employment options. It's the ideal way to begin your subsequent chapter
Mystery Weather
The British are renowned for their love of weather talk. Every time you meet someone new, it serves as an opening statement. This borderline preoccupation is a result of how unpredictable the weather is in Britain; you never know what you're going to receive! You'll just have to get accustomed to leaving the house in the middle of a morning heat wave and coming home to a torrent of rain in the late afternoon.
Picturesque
Some of the most breath taking sights in Europe may be seen in the UK. Visit the Cotswolds, Lake District, Scottish Highlands, or Welsh Valleys if you want to see some countryside. You desire to inhale the briny air of the ocean. Visit Cornwall or Devon to see the breath taking shoreline. Even some of the bigger cities, like Bath and Edinburgh, have managed to maintain their ancient charm despite growing over the years.
No air-con
Although they occasionally reach the mid-30s, UK summers are often quite moderate compared to other nations', hence air conditioning is not very widespread. Recent British summers have broken temperature records.
Public transport
It is relatively simple to move around the city thanks to the London Underground, train, and bus systems. London does not require driving! I later learned that this was typical in portions of Europe and Asia. But it's so simple to use and far superior to anything else.
Free museums
All visitors to most of the museums in the UK are welcome to do so without charge. People can learn a lot about culture and history at the museums.
Grocery hub
Food is easily accessible. There is always access to fresh vegetables, fruit and baked goods
Medical
One area where it operates extremely differently from how it does in India is the health service. If you need to see a doctor, you must schedule an appointment with the local GP after registering with them. If they are unable to schedule an appointment, you will need to travel to A&E. The fact that the service is free at the point of use is great, but opinions about NHS are mixed.
Education system
In the UK, education is entirely different. Your lecturers will teach you the material, and you'll be given deadlines for writing tasks on your own. Your score will be based on how well you reference your sources and present your material.
Cleanliness
Inspite of the weather, the city's cleaners are always doing an excellent job of keeping the streets free and the roadways clean.
These are the items that caught me off guard. I am benefiting from my stay here and finding it enjoyable.
