Finding out about the university

I first found out about LBU when the university attended a ‘Higher Education Fayre’ at my college. Honestly, I went to the event to pick up all the freebies. However, the LBU ambassadors were so friendly and knowledgeable, I couldn’t help but talk to them. Their enthusiasm over their experiences painted a vivid picture of student life. That first interaction with them put LBU, rightly, at the forefront of my mind. It’s the students’ opinions and experiences that really tell you about a university.

The city is admirable

The city of Leeds itself is very inviting because West Yorkshire is rated as one of the most beautiful places in the UK. And Leeds, the largest city in Yorkshire, is home to many of the important structures, natural wonders, beautiful parks, and many other beauty spots that have attracted so many people to this part of the world over the years.

It is not the biggest city in the world, but it is a place with a strong identity and a diverse population. Leeds has a strong professional community and a number of cultural destinations. Indeed, the city has everything a person could hope for: education, culture, history, music, the arts, sports, and a great nightlife.

I moved here for quality education, as Leeds is home to a world-famous university, Leeds Beckett University. The city has a huge student population, a number of affordable accommodation options, and world-class facilities. As a thriving economic centre, Leeds is also a city where students can find great jobs after they graduate; all of these qualities were the biggest reasons for my interest.

Positive aspects of the university

I chose to study project management at this university because the course is accredited by the Association for Project Management, the UK chartered professional body for project professionals. Following graduation and experience, you'll be able to apply for full membership and then apply for chartered status. This will enhance your professional standing and career prospects. When I looked into the teaching standards, I discovered that Leeds Beckett University received a silver rating from the Teaching Excellence Framework. This indicates that the instruction is of a high calibre, which is significant to every student.

The Strategic Project Management course at Leeds Beckett University has equipped me with skills in decision-making, motivation, and the development and delivery of successful business strategies. All of these skills will help me in the future, for sure.

Students can greatly benefit from placements and internships in terms of both academic performance and employment skills. I plan to enrol on the placements module for my studies next semester to obtain experience and a better understanding of the working world. Because the university has close contacts with PR agencies in Leeds and Yorkshire, there are great placements available to students such as myself every year.

Extracurricular activities

Besides the excellent education in the university, there are other activities available in the university, such as the community spirit of clubs, societies, sports, activities, and events on campus, which can make one's university life much more rewarding due to the extensive network of community and chances to develop self-confidence and a sense of belonging.

I formed a close relationship with the societies of my institution as well as the staff of resident student assistants. The projects created by the clubs and groups I was a part of, coupled with the warm smiles and cheers behind them, showed an unending network of love, generosity, and support. During the daunting days of my first year, the generosity and support I found through joining societies were a real game-changer. Participating in clubs, societies, events, sports, or other student group activities offers students the opportunity to be a part of an experience that is bigger than themselves, whether it be performing on stage, competing in a competition, or organizing an event.

My experience

Moving away is an extremely stressful decision, especially if you're leaving behind loved ones. When I went to university, I wanted to explore a new place since I believed it would be the best decision for me and my future. It wasn't a simple transition for me because I had never lived outside of my native country and had no friends or family waiting for me when I relocated from Pakistan to the UK.

Even though I was excited to study overseas, I was also concerned that I wouldn't be able to adjust to university life in the UK, which is very dissimilar from the typical Pakistan college experience, but it was worthwhile. You change after moving away, and from my experience, you wind up learning more about yourself. I feel like my life is really coming together now that I have new interests and friends. Just keep in mind that it's acceptable to feel both fear and adventure at the same time and that help is always available from the university, friends, and family.

A University should be a place of light, of liberty, and of learning

Overall, I’m so happy and fully satisfied with my decision of choosing to study at LBU, because it came with all the good qualities such as extracurricular activities, resources, courses, and instruction have went above my expectations. Additionally, I want to express my gratitude to all of wonderful people for their motivation and support throughout this course because of them I learned so much more than I ever expected.
