From hospitals and emergency care to community services and specialist clinics, nurses help people when they need it most – supporting patients through illness, recovery, long-term conditions, and life-changing moments.

On this adult nursing degree, you'll develop the confidence, resilience, and practical skills to care for adults across a wide range of healthcare settings. You'll learn how to assess patient needs, make informed decisions under pressure, communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and deliver compassionate, person-centred care in fast-paced environments.

You'll connect theory to practice through clinical skills sessions, immersive simulations, and hands-on placements. On placement, you'll gain valuable experience in hospitals, community settings, GP practices, specialist services, and more – helping you explore where you can make the biggest impact.

As part of this nursing course, you'll:

  • Develop practical nursing skills in specialist facilities and simulated healthcare environments
  • Have access to hands-on placements with our extensive links throughout Yorkshire, including Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and Leeds Community Healthcare Trust
  • Build confidence in assessing, planning, and delivering safe, evidence-based care
  • Explore physical health, long-term conditions, wellbeing, and patient-centred care

By graduation, you'll be ready to register with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and begin a rewarding career as a qualified adult nurse.

Qualify as a registered nurse
Approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), this course maps your learning to the professional standards required to become a registered adult nurse. You'll explore theory and practice across all four fields of nursing – adult, mental health, learning disabilities, and children’s nursing – preparing you for collaborative healthcare practice.

Develop skills you'll rely on
BSc Adult Nursing is hands-on from day one. In our modern Clinical Skills Suite, you'll practise essential techniques in authentic hospital wards and realistic healthcare environments designed to reflect professional practice. You'll then apply your learning on placement, spending 50% of your course gaining experience across a wide range of healthcare settings.

Build confidence under pressure
Healthcare is fast-moving and unpredictable. Through simulations, workshops, and scenario-based learning, you'll practise responding to complex situations, communicating clearly, and making informed decisions as part of a team in a controlled environment.

Learn from experienced professionals
You'll be taught by experienced healthcare practitioners and research-active staff who strive to bring current industry insight into your learning. Guest speakers, healthcare professionals, and people with lived experience will also help you explore different perspectives on care.

Expand your learning
Beyond placements, you'll have opportunities to take part in community projects, healthcare initiatives, and employability events to build your confidence, broaden your experience, and prepare you for professional practice. These include:

  • Working with the medical services at Leeds and Download festivals
  • Headstart
  • The final year Community Scheme

Working with the MINT initiative
We're working with the Men into Nursing Together initiative across our nursing courses. MINT is a national support network of healthcare professionals aiming to encourage greater diversity in nursing.

Occupational Health clearance and compliance

Occupational Health clearance and compliance with standard NHS immunisation requirements is mandatory and essential for placement attendance. For full details of any requirements or extra costs relating to your course, click 'find out more' in the fees and funding section.
