Would you like to be an effective and confident first-line manager who knows how to manage different people in any situation? Do you know how to communicate the overall vision and strategy of the organisation effectively? Do you know how to motivate others to perform at their best? The course challenges you to think about these questions as it helps you to develop your knowledge.

The aim of this programme is to build your confidence and skills as a developing leader. It is designed to lead you through a series of incremental steps to raise awareness of how you lead, communicate with, and motivate the team. We look at different leadership styles, models, and motivational theories and the main emphasis is on practical application of theory. By the end, you should feel able to embrace the next step in your career.

How is the qualification assessed?

There are two units of study; 'Understanding Leadership' and 'Leading and motivating a team effectively', and there is one assignment to write for each of approximately 1500 words. Full guidance for these units is given in the workshops.

Benefits of the workshops

  • To come together in a safe space to appreciate different perspectives on leadership, and to consolidate and develop knowledge
  • To meet people from other organisations and sectors in a similar role, with whom you can discuss and share ideas to strengthen practice
  • To gain an accreditation for the work you do. On successful completion, you will achieve an ILM certificate titled Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management
  • Facilitated by qualified and experienced tutors to support you on your leadership journey

Optional qualification enhancement

Effective leaders are self-aware which means they have a good understanding of their own emotions well and the impact they have on others. A self-aware leader is more able to respond to change and deal with conflict, thus enhancing their ability to deal with people and difficult situations. If you would like to gain a greater insight into how you deal with stress, pressure, and challenge, we offer you the opportunity to take an online psychometric assessment that measures your Mental Toughness (MTQ Plus 48). Research shows that mental toughness can affect performance, behaviour, well-being, and aspirations. This test will be followed by a 1-1 coaching conversation with a qualified tutor and licensed MTQ user to explore your results and draw conclusions. The cost of this enhancement is an additional £200; please ask us about this when registering for the programme.
