Develop the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to promote and protect public health and wellbeing. You will be equipped for a variety of roles in health promotion and public health, working for local authorities, health services or in the voluntary sector.

Led by a committed team of academics and specialists in the field, you will be introduced to the 'social' model of health rather than the predominant 'medical' model, enabling you to focus on how people and communities can be empowered to improve their health and how public policy can create healthier societies. You will also investigate the psychology of behaviour change and how people learn about health. The research strand will enable you to critically appraise evidence and develop research skills.

We have been providing specialist postgraduate health promotion training for more than 40 years, and our courses are informed by all the dynamic changes currently taking place in public health in the UK and globally.

Our contacts with practitioners in the public health community are well established, both regionally and nationally. We have a track record for our evaluation work, research with communities, commitment to tackling inequalities in health, and in providing an evidence base for practice.

Students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries, giving a chance to share experience, learn from each other and develop collaborative practice. A large number of our students have continued their career as public health consultants and health promotion specialists.
