Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

This course is accredited by the British Computer Society – Chartered Institute of IT (BCS). BCS recognises the quality of our curriculum, assessment, student support and all elements of the course. This means that what you’re learning is current and in-line with industry requirements.

Hands-on learning

Practical experience will be at the heart of your learning. We have strong contacts with industry, and you’ll have the option to do a placement year. Previous students have worked at NHS Digital, Sky and Rolls Royce.

Group projects, and presentations, along with hackathons and competitions, will help you link theory to industry practice.

Specialist facilities

You’ll have access to a range of resources as a student on this course, . These will include a dedicated networking lab where you can learn how to configure networks and work on industry-standard network management tools. You’ll also be able to use our sandbox lab with full administrator rights, which gives you the freedom to work on a range of technologies. This will enable you to develop advanced skills using a variety of tools and possibility for learning systems development with Raspberry Pi and IoT.

Your course tutors encourage you to move out of your comfort zone and try new ideas and new projects, for example programming a different language that’s not taught on the course. Guest speakers come in from industry and talk to you about what’s currently being done in the sector too. It’s really interesting to see how what we learn applies to the real world.

entry requirements

You will require a High School Grade 12 Diploma

Grade: GPA of 3 or above
English language requirements: High School Diploma Grade 12 English Grade C and a GPA of 3 overall OR AP English Grade 3

PLUS one or more of the following qualifications:

SAT Reasoning Test
Grade: Score of 1270 (including a minimum of 650 in Reading and Writing, and 610 in Math)
English language requirements: SAT Reasoning Test 650 in Reading and Writing and SAT Subject Test 550 in English

American College Testing (ACT)
Grade: Overall score of 26 or above
English language requirements: ACT score including English overall score of 26

2 Advanced Placement (AP) exam results
Grade: 3 or above
English language requirements: High School Diploma Grade 12 English Grade C and a GPA of 3 overall OR AP English Grade 3
