Leeds Law School celebrated moving into their new home in Broadcasting Place with a student party on 23 November.

The building houses a range of brand new state-of-the-art law facilities, including a Harvard Lecture Theatre, courtroom, immersive simulation suite, jury room and multiple social learning spaces.

The event was organised by Leeds Student Law Society, and involved a ‘scavenger hunt’ in the new spaces, a quiz and entertainment for staff and students, including a magician and photobooth.

Dean of Leeds Law School Professor Deveral Capps, who gave a welcome speech at the event, said: “This event is to celebrate the opening of our new Law School and the NSS success from July, but mostly is to be with our students and share their experiences of their time at Leeds Law School.

“We’ve been teaching law at Leeds Law School since 1924 and settling into such modern, state-of-the-art facilities by 2024 gives us a sense of great achievement and opportunity for our students and staff.”

The new development serves as the home for all undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses within Leeds Law School. As well as the multiple specialist teaching facilities, there is also a dedicated ‘Support Through Court’ room – providing a base for students working with the School’s partner charity.

Isobel Dorling, a second year student on the LLB (Hons) Law course, was at the event: “I think it’s really good to have a space specifically for law students. We’re all studying the same things, so we can help each other out here. The courtroom is really cool, and it puts studying law into perspective.”

Final year student Jacob Zbos, one of the main event organisers, said: “The launch party is a great opportunity for students to come together as a community, which has always been the purpose of the Law Society.

“By us now having our own space in Broadcasting Place, this will enable more opportunities for students across the Law School to socialise and connect.”
