Access new talent and skills

Our Employer Engagement Team is here to bridge the gap between employers seeking the next generation of talented minds for their organisation and the motivated students studying on our law degrees here at Leeds Law School.

We help students gain work experience and develop employability skills for a smooth transition into a graduate career.

We have a long history of working closely with the legal community throughout Yorkshire. There are many ways we work in partnership with prospective employers to develop workplace talent and we look forward continuing to forge valuable relationships with our colleagues in the local and regional legal community

How can you work with us?

Guest lectures can boost the number of quality applications to your firm or in-house legal team through targeted presentations delivered to our law students who are keen to learn more about your organisation.

As an organisation that has been training would-be lawyers for almost 100 years, we have seen many developments in the provision of legal education.

If you are an employer wishing to get involved with legal apprenticeships we'd love to hear from you:

Law Clinic

With our law clinic and other pro bono activities, students can be assured we are equipping them with the best possible skills for employment in the legal profession. We also recognise that our students benefit from involvement with legal firms outside the law clinic and, as such, we aim to provide our students with real opportunities and practical skills in law.

We would be extremely interested to hear from you about activities our students could engage with, or if your firm would like to support our Law Clinic.

Increase the number of quality applicants to your organisation by providing students with an insight into your recruitment process. Delivering a mini assessment centre, CV session, application or interview workshop can be a great way of boosting awareness of the opportunities you have available.

The university has a long history of supporting undergraduate students with work placements and has developed excellent links with legal firms and businesses in the region who are keen to recruit our students.

A placement is an opportunity for students to acquire and evidence the skills employers want. It can be a year long placement or one day per week. For you as an employer, it presents an opportunity to spot talent and make job offers prior to graduation.

If you would like to discuss placement opportunities please email or call us:

Our scheme offers the opportunity to mentor a student who is interested in your area of legal practice. Students can gain real life insights into the legal profession in order to help them make focused career decisions and get a head start. Many of our mentors are alumni and value the opportunity to contribute their time and energy in order to assist the next generation of legal professionals.

Many law firms offer open days or insight events for undergraduates and graduates to visit their offices and find out more about what they do. This usually includes a tour of the office and an opportunity for students to ask questions and interact with representatives and trainees. You could include group exercises designed to give students an insight into the kind of work they would carry out as a solicitor or paralegal or ask students to work on a negotiating task with their peers. These events help to focus students on career direction and increase commercial awareness of students early on in their degree as well as raise the profile of your organisation.

Vacation schemes of typically one or two weeks are very valuable to students seeking a legal career and can help firms to identify potential paralegal or trainee solicitor recruits. You may simply wish to offer hands-on work experience or combine this with talks, lunches and after hours events. This is a great way to get to know the student, assess how they fit into the firm and, if you are impressed, save on your recruitment costs and offer them a role on graduation.

One of the advantages of working with Leeds Beckett University is that we can advertise your vacancies directly to our law students through targeted emails or our specialised vacancy system. This is a good way to gain maximum exposure for your vacancy and organisation. Additionally, we liaise with academic staff to identify talented students who would be a suitable match to your specific requirements.

Sponsoring an event or offering awards or prizes to students raises your profile on campus and promotes awareness of your organisation. Incentivising students to maximise their potential is a great way to find talented individuals before they graduate.

Increase brand awareness for your organisation on campus through our newsletters and specialist blog. Share your news, career story or provide our students with tips for success.
