Packaging expert guest speaker at university talk
Ian Schofield is set to explore how there is no universal kerbside waste packaging policy in place and what options are available to consumers.
He will guide guests through questions such as “What can we do now?” and “Can sustainability be designed in at the start?”.
Now an independent consultant, Ian is regarded as one of the country’s leading experts in the field of packaging reuse and recycling.
Ian was Own Label Manager at Iceland in January 2018 when the supermarket chain announced plans to become the first mainstream retailer to be plastic free on all own-brand products by 2023.
He is the latest speaker in the Leeds Business School guest lecture series which is open to businesses, professionals, students, alumni and staff.
Ian will be examining designing sustainability into food packaging during the talk at city campus on Tuesday, 3 December which starts at 18:00.
He began his career at the Co-operative in Manchester, before joining Iceland in 1984 as Head of Packaging and Technical.
Ian was later a Director for Storm Brands and Sun Branding Solutions which included Parker Williams and then returned to Iceland in 2013 as Own Label Manager.
He is now semi-retired but runs an independent consultancy firm as well as working in non-executive board roles providing various services from digital print to sustainability.
Ian is also a Fellow of the Packaging Society as part of the institute of Mining, Minerals and Materials.
