Leeds Beckett invites students, staff and alumni to get creative to win tickets for LEEDS 2023 opening event
As LEEDS 2023 draws closer, the city is preparing for a transformational year of all things culture. Leeds Beckett University is a Principal Educational Partner of LEEDS 2023 and this partnership will see the university continue to shine a light on arts and culture in the city.
Friday 23 September 2022 marks 100 days to go until Leeds celebrates everything that makes the city special. Over the 12 months, events will be taking place all over the city and details of an exciting, unmissable opening event have been announced.
Waking the artist in all of us
The opening ceremony takes place on 7 January 2023 at Headingley Stadium. The live show promises to kick off LEEDS 2023 in style. To be in with a chance of winning tickets, you have to get creative. From doodles and drawings, to portraits made of pasta, poetry, music, a picture of a cake you’ve baked, this is your chance to create something that could win you tickets to a show like no other.
There are ballot boxes to submit your artwork on campus at Leeds Beckett University. These are located at Leslie Silver Building on City Campus (at the entrance to the library) and on Headingley Campus at Tiki coffee bar. The ticket ballot is open to everyone and if you’re not on campus you can enter via the LEEDS 2023 website.
Leeds Beckett has played an important role in the culture and arts in Leeds for more than 170 years. Some notable alumni include global music icon Marc Almond, Game of Thrones cinematographer Fabian Wagner and Leeds cultural leader Sharon Watson MBE. Our £80m Leeds School of Arts building is in the heart of the city centre, offering industry standard facilities for hands-on learning. We’re proud of the part we play in the arts and creative sector throughout the city and we’re excited for the opportunities LEEDS 2023 brings for our students, staff and wider community.
Professor Peter Slee, Vice Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University said:
“We are proud to continue our support for LEEDS 2023 and look forward to participating in this celebration of all forms of culture in the city. Our heritage in arts and culture has seen generations of artists, performers, architects and creators being inspired by their time at Leeds Beckett University and in Leeds. Our current community of over 2800 diverse creators will benefit enormously from the opportunity to add their creative voices to this transformational year of culture.''
Leeds has a fantastic story to tell of its rich cultural history and the city has a bright future. The programme of events will create a lasting legacy and will have real economic and social impact on the city. We’re counting down the days until 2023.
