Pro Vice Chancellor Dr David Ashton

David will lead Leeds Beckett’s student recruitment strategy, supporting the university’s determination to become sector-leading in equality, diversity, and inclusion.

This includes building on the university’s strengths in widening access and inclusion. Leeds Beckett is already recognised for providing the benefits of a quality education to a strong cross-section of its local and regional population, an increasing number of mature students, people from backgrounds with no history of higher education, and a growing international student cohort.

David is currently Deputy Principal at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he leads the professional services. He is executive lead for student recruitment and for environmental sustainability.

David previously held leadership roles at the University of Surrey, Kingston University and the University of Reading in a career which has also seen him work in Japan and pursue an academic interest in provincial administration in England and the Tudor system of justice.

He is a trustee and non-executive director of JISC, the UK’s digital agency for lifelong learning and research and has previously held non-exec and trustee positions at the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS), among others.
