Leeds Beckett athletes shortlisted for Leeds Sports Awards 2023
Leeds Beckett University graduate Georgia Taylor-Brown MBE and Talent Hub athletes Keely Hodgkinson and Lizzie Bird lead a stellar list of athletes from the university nominated at this year’s awards, which will take place at New Dock Hall on Friday 17 March.
Georgia, Keely, and Lizzie have been nominated in the Sportswoman of the Year category, after an incredible 2022, which saw Georgia win gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and Keely earn the first gold medal of her career in the European Athletics Championships. Lizzie meanwhile, claimed Commonwealth silver and moved into fourth place in the European all-time list in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
Both Keely and Lizzie are supported by the Leeds Beckett University Talent Hub, a collaboration between British Athletics, England Athletics, London Marathon Events and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS). The Talent Hub provides a performance development environment for its athletes, and their coaches, as well as a dual-career pathway built around an education and learning programme.
Leeds Beckett graduate and honorary graduate, Kadeena Cox OBE, has been shortlisted for the Disability Sportswoman of the Year award, while Leeds Rhinos Women’s head coach, and graduate, Lois Forsell has been nominated for the Performance Coach award.
Leeds Beckett University’s American Football and Cricket teams have also been shortlisted in the Student Sport Champion category, for their contributions on and off the pitch during the 2022 British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) season.
Leeds Beckett University has been named as a main event partner for this year’s Leeds Sports Awards, delivered by Sport Leeds. The awards will also have the support of Leeds Trinity University and the University of Leeds.
