24 successful LBU students have been awarded scholarships funded by alumni, partners and friends.
Each scholarship award offers unique possibilities for students to put themselves out there and gain a range of experiences to carry them forward in their future careers.
This year, we were able to award our flagship Bright Futures Scholarships to six students across five schools. These scholarships are funded entirely by the generosity of our alumni community. As students are facing increasing financial challenges it's more important than ever to be able to provide free financial support to widen access to higher education. The Bright Futures Scholarships were first awarded back in 2012, and we're thrilled to be able to continue awarding deserving students over a decade later.
Additional scholarships funded by our alumni are our Carnegie Class of 75-77 Scholarship and Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarship. Collectively, these groups have supported over 10 students in the past five years and have continued to support an additional three students for the new academic year. We're incredibly grateful for the support of our sporting alumni and their commitment to realising the potential and sporting excellence of our students.
Our scholarship awards continue to go from strength to strength. Following the success stories of our previous recipients, we have been fortunate enough to secure a further scholarship of £30,000 from Landsec to support one more student studying Real Estate and Property Management. Working closely with academic colleagues in the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing, this additional scholarship highlights our commitment to working with corporate partners to better support future industry professionals.
We are also thrilled to announce that we have been able to continue our partnership with Soroptimists International of Leeds to award a fourth scholarship of £9,000. The Soroptimist International of Leeds Scholarship was created to support the ambitions of female students studying STEM-related subjects. With each of these awarded scholarships, we demonstrate our commitment to breaking down barriers of access to traditionally male-dominated courses.
In addition, Leeds Beckett has also secured a brand-new bursary in collaboration with the ICAEW Foundation. This new award aims to support one student studying either BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance or BA (Hons) Business Accounting and Finance in the Leeds Business School. The bursary itself is a cash award of £12,000 and is designed to support its recipient throughout their time at Leeds Beckett. The ICAEW has a history of working with industry leaders and regulators, and we are thrilled to be able to work with them in recognising the talent of our Accounting and Finance students.
Further supporting our students studying finance-related courses is the Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship. First awarded in 2012, this award is generously supported by the Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University, Sir Bob Murray CBE. After final consultation with the Chancellor, five students have been awarded his scholarship for 2024/2025.
Other notable increases in giving come from our longstanding partnership with the Halifax Law Society. This year the Society were so impressed with the calibre of applicants, that the decision was again made to award 3 scholarships for this academic year.
Our scholarship applications for the academic year 2025/2026 will open in October and more information can be found on the Scholarships and Bursaries website. Alternatively, to find out more information on our scholarships and how you can support our students, you can find information on our Alumni website or reach out to one of the Alumni team.
