Events and networking

At Leeds Sustainability Institute, we are committed to knowledge exchange, innovation and collaboration for sustainability.

We host and support events that bring together academia, industry and the young generation, and we praise for the reputation we built through these events not only in the UK but also internationally. The SEEDS International Conference welcomes representatives from more than 15 countries, while the RISE Awards event connects the industry with academia to explore the latest technologies and best practice in the built environment.

Our main ambition is to expand our networks and inspire like-minded individuals, no matter their age, background, area of expertise or industry, the only prerequisite is to want to create more sustainable places, communities and economies. Join our SEEDS and RISE networks!

International SEEDS conference

What is SEEDS?

International Conference for Sustainable Ecological Engineering Design for Society or SEEDS is an annual Conference started in 2015 and led by the Leeds Sustainability Institute in partnership with the University of the West of England, Technological University Dublin, and University of Suffolk.

The SEEDS Conference and community aspires to:

  • Promote education, dissemination, and research connected with the broad sustainability agenda and the Sustainability Development Goals
  • Engage developing researchers, assist them through the review of their submission and encourage excellence in the research of those within the SEEDS community
  • Hold events, conferences, workshops, and seminars for SEEDS members, encouraging the development of research through the exchange of thoughts and theories, building on research, experiences, and different perspectives
  • Open up research and education, removing barriers and developing knowledge
  • Develop excellence in education and research within the field

RISE Awards and RISE Awards for Schools

Each year we run the RISE Awards. These are highly regarded awards that seek to recognise, celebrate and showcase exemplar case studies from the Built Environment sharing emerging best practices in Research, Innovation, Sustainability, and Enterprise for new and innovative products, technologies, processes, projects, and schemes. Our awards bring together academia, industry, third sector, and community groups in a unique celebration of all those who are helping to change the way we build and live in the future.

In 2021, the Leeds Sustainability Institute took a step forward to engage the younger generation in creating solutions for a sustainable future. We have launched the RISE Awards for School, a competition that encourages secondary school students to make their voices heard while being inspired by professionals from the built environment.
