Sports Scholarships

Sports Scholarships

19/20 sports scholarships applications open until 27 September.

We have been supporting our students to reach their potential through the Carnegie Sports Scholarships Scheme since 2002.

Current scholar Alex Yee holds the second fastest UK Park Run time and claimed gold in the ITU Triathlon World Cup event in Cape Town. Alex leads an established list of Leeds Beckett scholars that includes alumni athletes such as Great Britain triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown, who finished third in the 2018 Triathlon ITU World Series (2015), Team GB Olympians race walker Tom Bosworth (2013) and 1.500 metre runner Laura Weightman (2013), Lionesses footballer Lucy Bronze, England Rugby League player Alex Walmsley and many more.

Each year we award a number of Sports Scholarships to high performing athletes who are committed to upholding the values of the university and represent us in BUCS events and who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success within their chosen sport.

Where possible Sports Scholars have the opportunity to discuss flexible study depending on their chosen course & sporting demands.

Scholarship holders receive technical, pastoral and financial support to help develop their sporting performance alongside their studies. If you want to be a Leeds Beckett Sports Scholar in 2019/20, see if you meet the selection criteria for your sport and submit an online application form.

Criteria for allocation

We have a limited number of Scholarships to award in 2019-20 and therefore in addition to requiring you to meet the above criteria we will give priority to students who can demonstrate that they will make a significant contribution in their respective sport. Meeting the criteria does not equate to entitlement to a scholarship.
