Jim Durrant

Principal Lecturer

Jim is a Principal Lecturer in Quantity Surveying. He has over 30 years experience in teaching and management in Higher Education. Jim is a chartered quantity surveyor and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Jim's key focus is on learning and teaching. His teaching experience spans many of the main built environment professions and he has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a number of Universities. He is an experienced external examiner and higher education reviewer and holds an MBA in higher education management. Jim is an experienced mentor, supporting colleagues toward fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and working closely with the Centre for Learning and Teaching at Leeds Beckett University.

Research Interests

Jims research interests are centred on the student learning experience. His current research is in the inclusion of project biased learning in the curriculum and the impact of the affiliation of students to communities of practice on their engagement with their chosen programmes of study. It is anticipated that the outcome of the research will enable the development of teaching assets to support students from a range of backgrounds on various modes of study.
