Study in Leeds for one or two semesters

If you are studying in higher education, you can join our Independent Study Abroad programme for one or two semesters. Study Abroad students find that spending a period abroad at Leeds Beckett provides an international perspective which helps with their academic studies and gain rewarding life experiences and self-confidence. When you study abroad at Leeds Beckett, you will have access to the same services and academic support as all Leeds Beckett students.

How does Independent Study Abroad work?

how does it work?

As a Study Abroad student you will:

  • Be enrolled on a full-time study load of 60 credit points per semester (equivalent to 30 ECTS)
  • Pay tuition fees to Leeds Beckett or through a sponsor / third party provider
  • Receive a Leeds Beckett academic transcript with grades upon completion of study
  • Get help in finding accommodation
  • Receive lots of support and access to other services while you’re with us

You should have completed at least one full year of study by the time you start our study abroad programme. It is important that you ensure your home institution will transfer credit for the classes you want to take at Leeds Beckett, so remember to consult your Study Abroad Office at your home institution for approval.

The tuition fees for the 2021-22 Study Abroad Programme are as follows:

Home / EU:

  • Undergraduate: TBC*

International:

*Please note that fees are calculated based on a 60 credit semester, and are subject to change.

Start your application

There are three ways to submit your Study Abroad application:

  • Direct: complete the application form. Your academic transcript and proof of English proficiency (if applicable) will also need to be mailed to the Study Abroad Office as we need to receive the originals or original certified copies
  • Recruitment Agent: contact one of Leeds Beckett's registered recruitment agents in your country. They will assist you with the application process and will submit the documents on your behalf. Primary communication will be between us and the agent
  • Home university: Home university: your home university submits the documents on your behalf. Primary communication is between us and your home university

Check you have all the necessary documents

As part of your Study Abroad application, you will need to submit copies of the following documents: 

  • A letter from your home institution confirming that you can join our Study Abroad programme
  • A printed Study Abroad Programme application form, signed by you and signed and stamped by your home institution
  • A printed module form, signed and stamped by your home institution
  • A detailed transcript (in English), of your studies so far, confirming that you have achieved a cumulative GPA 2.5 (on a 4 point system) or the equivalent of 50% in the UK system
  • Evidence of your levels of English language competence - most international students demonstrate their English level through an IELTS test, taken at a UK Visa and Immigrations approved test centre. We usually require a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with no skill below 5.5 (although this may vary according to the course). For information on approved test centres and to register for an approved IELTS test please go to the IELTS website
  • A copy of your passport
  • An academic reference
  • Evidence of financial standing (for example, letter of sponsorship or bank statements) which covers living costs and the tuition fee
  • A portfolio, if applying for architecture, art, design and film modules

You may submit your application without all the required documents, however it may cause a delay in issuing an outcome. When submitting your application, please let us know when you expect to submit any outstanding documents. 

 

Submit your application

Make sure to submit your application before our deadlines:

  • Semester 1 or full year exchange: 30 April
  • Semester 2 exchange: 30 September

After you've applied

Once we have received your application and supporting documents, it may take up to three weeks to issue an outcome.

If you have received a Letter of Offer for Leeds Beckett's Study Abroad programme, you will need to submit any outstanding items.
