Make The Most Of The Sun
After what feels like an eternity of a winter followed by weeks of torrential rain (not that we're ones for melodrama), there is finally some good news on the horizon - in the form of sun.
For this week at least, it seems Leeds will be bypassing spring and diving headfirst into an early summer, because a mini heatwave is expected. According to Luke Miall, meteorologist at the Met Office, the whole country will be "much drier and sunnier with temperatures starting to rise, which is a trend as we go through the middle part of the week."
And to be fair, we are due a bit of good weather after the snow we experienced in March!
Thursday is set to be the peak of the warm weather. As a student who doesn’t work a 9-5 job, should definitely make the most of a mid-week day in the sun while you can.
Here are 5 ways you could make the most of the sun…
Head to a park
You’re spoilt for choice in Leeds for Parks, but one of the most popular with the student population is Woodhouse More (Hyde Park), where the students flock on the hottest days. There is also Roundhay Park, Golden Acre Park and Beckett Park.
Revise in the sunshine
With exams and deadlines looming you might feel under too much pressure to take a day of in the sunshine, but why not try working in the sun. Head to your nearest green area with your work or plant yourself on a table outside a coffee shop. Alternatively, if you want to be near the library head to The Acre on Headingley Campus.
Everyone loves a beer garden on a sunny day. Original Oak in Headingley boasts one of the biggest beer gardens in Leeds. The Headingley Campus SU Bar also has a suntrap outside and serves cheap drinks!
Explore the Leeds-Liverpool Canal
This one is a favourite for students living at Kirkstall Brewery. Got a lecture? Soak up the rays before heading into that lecture theatre with a walk along the canal.
Explore Headingley Campus
Our University isn’t short of striking locations. But, we bet you didn’t know about all of these lesser-known beauty spots; hidden gems tucked away and only stumbled across accidentally. Explore Churchwood Gardens and the walking routes around the Queen Victoria monument that Headingley Campus Grounds Team work hard to maintain.
