Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

The Bowery

The Bowery is not only a great coffee shop serving a range of sandwiches and baked goods, but it also doubles as an art gallery. Whether you’re an artist or not, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the art while you study. The Bowery also has an upstairs study room designed for quiet time, where you’re guaranteed to get work done! Being only a 15 minute walk from Headingley Campus, it is well worth visiting.

Stage Espresso & Brewbar

41 Great George St, Leeds LS1 3BB

Boasting a wide range of coffee and snacks, Stage Espresso & Brewbar is perfect for a caffeine fuelled study session. Just a 5-minute walk away from City Campus, you don’t have to venture far, making it perfect for filling any gaps within your day. They’re open from 8:30am-3:30pm making it perfect to visit after a morning lecture.

If Up North

If Up North have 3 locations across Leeds, meaning that wherever you are, there is one in reach. The closest one being only a 6 minute walk from City Campus. They offer a wide range of fantastic food and delicious drinks along with the opportunity to purchase coffee sourced from a variety of locations across the world.

200 Degrees Coffee Shop

31 Bond St, Leeds LS1 5BQ

The 200 Degrees menu consists of breakfast, lunch and a variety of delicious pastries and cakes, making it perfect if you’re looking for great food while you study. On weekdays, they are open from 7am-8:30pm meaning they can even serve as an evening study spot. They are also open from 8am-8pm on Saturdays and 8am-7pm on Sundays so if you need to catch up on the week, this is the place.

Flamingos Coffee House

10 Central Arcade, Leeds LS1 6DX

Flamingos Coffee House is an LGBTQ coffee bar located in Leeds city Centre. They offer plenty of options for food and drink, catering for vegans and vegetarians as well. They’re open from 10am-5:30pm weekdays, making it perfect if you’re looking for a sweet snack and a chat in between your studies.
