Jess Carroll is a 2021 Carnegie School of Education graduate. Below she discusses her course experience.

What have you been up to since you finished your course?

I’ll finish my first year of teaching tomorrow which has been so much fun. Next year I’m staying in the same school but will be working with a different year group. I’m excited.

What kind of support have you received while you were a student here?

I had so much support. The help I received while applying for jobs was incredible. The career advisor checked over my application and I ended up getting the job.

Why did you choose to study your course at LBU?

I love teaching; I worked with kids while I was growing up and studying. I came to visit Leeds Beckett and I loved how green Headingley Campus is with the trees and the acre. It feels like home.

What was your favourite part of the course?

The placements were amazing because they just gave you a feel for the job.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of studying your course?

Throw yourself into it. You’ve got to give it your all and just enjoy yourself.

What was your most joyful moment of being a Leeds Beckett student?

We got to the league finals of BUCS with my hockey team so that was awesome. I wish I’d got stuck into sport and joined a team sooner as it’s so much fun.
