Teachers and staff working in specialist settings know that for their children to reach their full potential, there must be a focus on their wellbeing and mental health.

New Senior Mental Health Lead Training for Specialist Settings

Spotting the signs and acting quickly is essential to ensure students can receive appropriate help.

The government has recognised the importance of improving mental health in schools and has provided funding to train staff to ensure that every school has a senior mental health lead.

Alongside our Senior Mental Health Lead training courses, we have launched a new course designed specifically for people working in specialist settings and alternative provision to enable them to both support students and the mental health and wellbeing of staff.

Who is the course for?

The course has been designed for people who have led inclusion or mental health within a specialist setting such as:

  • Senior leaders in specialist settings and alternative provisions
  • Heads of inclusion in specialist settings and alternative provisions
  • SENCOs

How is the course structured?

  • You will work with established school leaders in mental health to support the development of an improvement plan
  • You will attend networking events, group and individual coaching sessions to improve your understanding of the topics covered
  • You will become part of a community of senior mental health leads working in specialist settings and alternative provisions
The course will enable you to:
  • Develop your intent for the mental health and wellbeing provision in your school
  • Examine the methods used to assess current interventions
  • Support staff to protect their mental health and wellbeing
  • Consider how staff interpret the information or observations from or of students
  • Evaluate the available interventions and assess their impact

Our new specialist setting course has been designed by Jo Graham, a programme lead at Minds Ahead and a qualified and experienced SENCO. She has been the Lead Teacher for an Alternative Provision, where she fiercely advocated for, and ensured good quality education for, some of the county’s most vulnerable children and young people.

Our Senior Mental Health Lead Training Courses have been certified to be on the Department for Education (DfE) approved training course framework.
