Have you seen our Community Cupboard at Headingley?

It’s our drop/swap/pick up spot for all things you don’t need that someone else might! Maybe it’s a tin of chickpeas that’s been living unloved at the back of the cupboard, or a soup you snapped up by mistake - drop it in the cupboard in Campus Central and you might make someone's day (or at least a tasty dinner!).

When we first opened the cupboard, we initially saw it as a space to trade food to help tackle food waste, but as the cupboard space has been used longer it's also been a space to pay it forward by leaving stationery you no longer use to get a new lease of life. During this study season it's proven a useful source of materials and meant that instead of buying folders, notepads pens etc you can spend that cash on other things that are important to you.

What can I add to the cupboard?

If you'd keep it in a cupboard at home, it will be fine to add to the shelves:

  • Unopened non-perishable foods e.g. canned or in a jar products, rice, pasta, lentils, biscuits
  • Stationery e.g. notepads, folders, pens, pencils
  • Toiletries e.g. shower gel, shampoo, hair styling products
  • Books

Where can I find it?

The Community Cupboard is located in Campus Central, near the Campus Shop on Headingley Campus. We have plans to open an additional cupboard on City Campus in September 2023 - watch this space!
