Leeds Beckett University is committed to working in partnership with local organisations and businesses to make a positive impact in the Leeds City Region. We supply the local and regional economy with highly skilled and experienced graduates who are equipped to meet the needs of the labour market and community we serve.

The Graduate Progression Team within Beckett Careers works closely with organisations in the region to meet business needs and offer the right support to students and graduates to ensure they leave university equipped to transition easily into the workplace through:

  • LBU Graduate Development Funding
  • The LBU Summer Graduate Development Programme

The LBU Graduate Development Funding is designed to support organisations to invest in their future talent by offering financial support towards the cost of recruiting and onboarding recent Leeds Beckett graduates. Through the funding we hope to ensure that our graduates thrive as they take their next steps in their career whilst helping local employers with these development costs.

The funding can offer third sector, public sector and SMEs funding towards recruiting a Leeds Beckett graduate for a minimum of a three-month full-time contract. This could be either an internship or a permanent position, asking that the funding is used to help toward the costs of developing a graduate in the role and workplace.

We also offer assisted recruitment, advertising roles to our LBU graduate talent pool and supporting with shortlisting and interview. is provided and on confirmation that a graduate has been hired, the funding is sent in a lump sum to the organisation.

The LBU Summer Graduate Development Programme helps graduates increase their career confidence, gain skills required by local businesses and build their work experience through a six-week programme. The programme includes professional development and skills training and a work experience project across May and June with local organisations which have included Leeds City Council, Oxfam, GIPSIL and the Moonlight Trust.

The work experience projects help students gain real experience working to complete tasks or research as required and supported by local organisations. We ensure we are supporting graduates from underrepresented groups by offering an engagement-based bursary to help them complete the programme.

Local organisations we’ve worked with in the past have said:

“We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the scheme. It was fantastic working with the Leeds Beckett Careers Team who have been extremely professional, responsive and have developed a programme to support students facing additional barriers to employment.”

Grace Lawrenson, LCC Financial Inclusion Team

“We always enjoy hosting students on placements or work experience.  It was good to have sociology graduates to hear their views and reflections on our work and their experience of working with us. We value different people's views and know it helps us to shape our own practice when we hear from others.  Also, both graduates produced useful outputs and contributed to projects we have ongoing.”

Nifty Sustainability

Each of these programmes require supportive and quality opportunities for our graduates to learn and develop in. If you would be interested in finding out more information or you would like to get involved in either of these programmes, please contact gradcareers@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.
