The Cycle to work scheme enables our staff to loan a bicycle and safety equipment as a tax-free benefit.
About The Scheme
The scheme enables our staff to loan a bicycle and safety equipment as a tax-free benefit. We offer an opportunity to hire a bicycle and accessories through a salary reduction system over an 12 month period. At the end of the initial 12 months you will be given the opportunity to extend the hire period for a further 3 years by paying a one off continuation deposit. No further monthly salary sacrifice payments will be due. Alternatively, you may be offered ownership of the bike in return for a market value fee or you may return the bike to Cyclescheme.
Cycling can benefit health and fitness by contributing to the Government's guidelines to exercise for 30 minutes a day, most days of the week. In addition, travelling by bicycle is a quick and cheap mode of transport in urban areas which is also good for the environment, improves air quality and eases traffic congestion.
In partnership with Cyclescheme, we offer an opportunity to hire a bicycle and accessories through a salary "reduction" system. This scheme allows you to make payments from your gross salary, thus making a saving by paying reduced income tax and national insurance contributions. You can hire up to £3000 worth of bicycle equipment as long as it is used to cycle to work 50% of the time. The bicycle can also be used to travel between campuses. Cyclescheme’s network of over 2000 Retailers provides access to over 500 different cycling brands, including direct access to the UK’s most popular bike manufacturers. Many retailers provide electric bikes, folding bikes and other specialist cycles.
You may also use the scheme for parts for example wheels or a groupset are also covered by the scheme.
