Fast-track your career
If you’re passionate about helping children thrive and want to progress into the classroom, this accelerated primary education course gets you there sooner.
You'll complete your degree in just two intensive years, without compromising academic depth, while developing the confidence, critical thinking, and real-world experience needed to work with children across the primary age range.
This course takes a child-centred, reflective approach to education. You’ll explore how children learn and develop, question current practice, and engage with the social and educational issues shaping schools today.
As part of this primary education course, you'll:
You’ll graduate with a strong academic foundation, professional confidence, and a clear sense of direction, ready for the next step in your education chapter.
Placements that bring learning to life
We work closely with local schools and education providers to ensure your studies reflect current classroom practice. The degree provides an ideal opportunity for you to identify your chosen pathway into primary education. You’ll be immersed in children’s learning environments, observing how priority areas such as EAL, SEND, and the teaching of core subjects are addressed across the primary phase. Alongside this, you’ll undertake a block placement in a primary school and gain experience in a range of wider educational settings, including galleries, museums, pupil referral units, family centres, and charities. Your placements will help you build practical experience and enhance your employability.
Placements also give you the opportunity to:
These experiences help you grow in confidence, refine your strengths, and make informed choices about your future in education and child-focused careers.
How you'll learn
You'll be taught on campus via a mix of interactive lectures, seminars, and workshops, supported by independent study. Your learning is research-informed, meaning you’ll engage with key theories, current debates, and real-world issues in primary and early years education, building the critical thinking skills employers and training providers value.
Our community
You'll become part of a supportive, inspiring community within the Carnegie School of Education. Our specialist team are not only experienced educators, but active researchers shaping educational thinking and practice, bringing fresh ideas and insight directly into your learning.
