This psychology in education degree equips you with the insights, skills, and real-world experience to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people.

Please note this course is not accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and completion will not lead to chartered Educational Psychologist status.

Expanding your knowledge
This course will enable you to develop graduate expertise in a variety of areas. You'll be able to identify barriers to learning and develop inclusive teaching practices and strategies to help individuals, including those with SEND, thrive in an educational setting. You'll gain specific knowledge of conditions such as autism, and have a critical understanding of the local, national, and international contexts of education. 

In the second and final year of your degree, you'll choose optional modules from four key themes:

Psychology and inclusion
Early years
Children and society
Teaching and education

This enables you to tailor your learning around topics that interest you most.

Hands-on learning
You’ll have the opportunity to gain 270 hours of work experience throughout your degree. Our strong partnerships with local primary and secondary schools, as well as SEND and alternative provision settings, give you the chance to apply your learning to real-world settings. This practical experience will help you deepen your knowledge, develop your skills and boost your employability following graduation. 

Study support
You'll join a supportive academic community, learning from experts in research and professional practice. You’ll also benefit from a variety of guest speakers, who will share their experience and bring real-world insights into current educational issues. Previous sessions have covered topics such as educational psychology, mental health, social work, employability, and enterprise activity. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to gain additional professional development qualifications and certificates, including, first aid, child protection, forest school and Makaton.

Designed with real-world application in mind, course content and assessments help build strong, practical, problem-solving skills that are valuable in professional settings. Our new home

Our new home in Caedmon Hall features a university seminar classroom which combines a traditional lecture theatre with more intimate tutorial scenarios, to accommodate flexible teaching methods. It also has communal social and study areas, brand new conferencing facilities and a number of flexible high-spec teaching and learning areas. Including the following bespoke spaces:

  • Science Laboratory - complete with the latest state-of-the-art equipment
  • Art and Design room - bespoke facilities designed to maximise the range of possible activities
  • VR/Augmented Reality Lab - state-of-the-art specialist area for the practice, development and delivery of immersive technology in education
  • Early Years Room - carefully designed for early years teaching
  • Primary Maths Space - designed to be flexible and support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning
