Travelling in and around Leeds
Leeds has frequent buses and trains to get you to where you need to go. Below we’ve explained all the modes of transport to get around, and ways to make it cheaper.
Travelling By:
Buses from Headingley to Leeds run every 10 minutes and stop near Headingley Campus and outside our City Campus.
You can use a contactless debit or credit card or pay with cash which costs £2 for a return journey from Headingley to Leeds city centre. There are a couple of options to save money if you use buses frequently.
Discounted bus travel
The main bus company in Leeds, First Bus, offer £2 Student Single fares. This offer is available on many buses that go through the student areas of Headingley, Burley and Hyde Park. For a student single ticket, you just need to show the bus driver your valid Student I.D.
Student MCard
West Yorkshire Metro provide MCards that you can top-up with money online. Travelling on public transport works out cheaper with an MCard.
An MCard provides unlimited travel around Leeds and West Yorkshire and there are options for bus only travel or bus and train combined. Visit the MCard website to find the right card option for you.

There are regular train services from Headingley and Burley to Leeds that run every 30 minutes. You can buy a ticket online or from one of the station ticket machines.
16-25 student railcard
To save a third off all rail travel around the UK you can purchase a 16-25 student railcard.
It costs £35 per year, or you can buy a three-year railcard for £80. If you’re a full-time student you can purchase a student railcard, regardless of age.
