Professor Junjie Wu

Junjie is a Professor in Finance. She has worked in universities in the UK and China for 40 years and is the author of 67 scholarly articles (September 2021), editor of 2 textbooks and guest editors of academic journals.

Junjie has worked in three universities in the UK and China since 1981. She has been working at Leeds Beckett University since 2004. She obtained Master degree from Zhongnan Economics and Law University in 1990, China and Doctoral degree in 2003 from University of Huddersfield, UK. During her HE career, she has taught many modules in Accounting and Finance subjects, received awards of ‘Excellent Teacher’ in China, and was nominated as ‘Inspiring Teacher of the Year’ 2013 and 2014, respectively, at Leeds Beckett University. She has also worked in a variety of administration and leadership roles. 

Junjie is passionate about research with prolific research outcomes. Since 1982, she has published more than 67 scholarly articles with nationally and internationally excellent journals, including International Journal of Accounting, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Journal of Environmental Management, Energy Policy, Economic Modelling, Managerial and Decision Economics, Corporate Governance: The International Journal of Business in Society, Research in International Business and Finance, Journal of Global Information Technology Management, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Accounting Research (会计研究), Economic Issues in China (中国经济问题). Her multidisciplinary research areas span accounting, finance, economics, energy, international business and education, using diversified research methods (quantitative, qualitative, narrative, case studies and so forth). In recognition of her research achievements, she was awarded ‘Highly Commended Researcher of the Year 2013’ by Leeds Beckett University, ‘Excellent Research Award’ and ‘Excellent Research Paper Award’ by Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, China, and by Yunnan Educational Council and the Chinese Accounting Society. She regularly acts as a reviewer for high ranking peer-refereed journals, external research grant bodies and top international conferences. Her research has gained an international reputation. She is a Visiting Professor in Chinese universities, currently collaborating with scholars from Beihang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Ningbo University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Hubei University and others. She is a funding reviewer for the Research Grants Council, Hong Kong.

Junjie has successfully supervised more than 17 PhD/DBA students to completion and acts as Independent Chair, Internal Examiner and External Examiner in other UK universities.

Research Interests

Junjie’s own research interests focused on SME financing, formal and informal lending, financial inclusion, financial literacy, digital finance and Corporate and Social Responsibility in SMEs.
